How this all came about:

You Can Skate, Inc. was founded on compassion, faith, and a strong desire to ensure no child is left behind due to financial reasons. You Can Skate, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Katy, Texas.
The idea for You Can Skate started after watching both my sons grow through high school sports. Watching them, it became clear just how powerful those extracurricular programs can be. They build discipline, camaraderie, and friendships that last a lifetime. But I also saw the other side. It broke my heart to see kids missing out on sports camps, sitting out of pre-game meals, or not even being able to participate just because their families couldn’t afford the costs.
Although these programs may be free to join, they certainly require a financial investment to participate. Some students were being left out, not because they lacked talent or drive, but simply because of financial constraints. I watched my son lend his track spikes to teammates so they could run when he wasn't participating in an event. That’s when God put it on my heart to Do Something, and that’s exactly what I set out to do.
That calling became what is now the You Can Skate Outreach Program, a way to step in and support students who want to be involved in school activities but face financial barriers. Through this program, we help cover essential needs such as participation fees, required equipment, and other costs that can prevent students from fully engaging in school-sponsored extracurricular activities. Because these moments matter, no student should have to sit on the sidelines or miss out on opportunities for growth, connection, and belonging simply because their family cannot afford the cost of participation. Skating has always been a meaningful part of my own journey. From roller skating to skateboarding, it provided an outlet for creativity, connection, and confidence during my own youth. Those experiences helped shape my understanding of how powerful it is for young people to have spaces where they feel included, supported, and free to be themselves. That belief continues to guide the work we do today. At its core, You Can Skate, Inc. exists to help students stay connected to their schools, their activities, and their sense of belonging by removing financial barriers that stand in the way. One Stride. One Soul. One Community at a time.

Who We Are
You Can Skate, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Katy, Texas. serving youth and families across the Greater Houston area. Our work focuses on helping students stay connected to their schools by removing financial barriers that prevent participation in school-based extracurricular activities.
Through our Youth Outreach Program, we provide direct support to middle and high school students whose families face challenges covering participation costs. This includes assistance with school-sponsored camp fees, required athletic or activity equipment, participation fees, and other essentials students need to fully engage in their school activities with confidence.
We believe that participation in school athletics, band, and other extracurricular programs plays a critical role in keeping students engaged, building confidence, and strengthening their connection to their school community. When cost becomes a barrier, students are often forced to step away from opportunities that support their growth and well-being. Our goal is to help prevent that from happening.
While our long-term vision includes expanding community-based opportunities for youth and families, our current focus remains on meeting immediate needs through direct outreach and support. We continue to serve students today while building partnerships that will allow us to grow responsibly and sustainably in the future.
In addition to direct assistance, we collaborate with schools, families, churches, and community partners to identify students in need and ensure support reaches those who need it most. Every student deserves the opportunity to participate, belong, and move forward with confidence.
