How this all came about:

YCS Team

You Can Skate, Inc. was founded on compassion, faith, and a strong desire to ensure no child is left behind due to financial reasons. You Can Skate, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Katy, Texas.

The idea for You Can Skate started after watching both my sons grow through high school sports. Watching them, it became clear just how powerful those extracurricular programs can be. They build discipline, camaraderie, and friendships that last a lifetime. But I also saw the other side. It broke my heart to see kids missing out on summer camps or sitting out of pre-game meals just because their families couldn’t afford the extra costs.

Sure, these programs might be free to join, but they definitely cost money to participate. Some students were being left out, not because they lacked talent or drive, but simply because of financial constraints. I watched my son lend his track spikes to teammates so they could run when he wasn't participating in an event. That’s when God put it on my heart to Do Something, and that’s exactly what I set out to do.

That something is now our You Can Skate Outreach program. A way to step in and support students who want to be involved but can’t afford things such as gear, meals, or camp fees. Since those moments matter, no child should sit on the sidelines or miss out on growth, connection, and belonging to a team because of financial hardship. Now, the IT side of our mission came through my journey. I’ve worked in the Salesforce ecosystem for the past five years, and it’s been life-changing. My oldest son is a certified Salesforce trainer and recipient of the Golden Hoodie (a huge honor in the Salesforce world) and he trained me himself. That training gave me the confidence and skills to negotiate my salary and land a role that completely shifted my life. Once he trained me and saw how it impacted my life, he told me, “I want to be able to take someone working in any field and teach them Salesforce so they can have the freedom to enjoy a comfortable work-life balance.” And he’s done just that! He’s trained professionals from multiple Fortune 500 companies based all over the world, to individuals like me who had careers but just wanted something else that would give them the freedom to enjoy the important things in life. Such as spending more time with family, and not just living to work. That’s what we’re building through "You Can Skate Academy”, a path to proven IT skills that will open real doors. And then, of course, there’s skating, that’s just part of who I am. I’ve been skating since I was a kid, roller skating and skateboarding have always been a part of me. Skating gave me the freedom to be creative and escape anything that I may have been going through at that time. It also helped me build relationships, whether it was with kids in the neighborhood or just with my brother, who did everything with me. I wanted to create a space where others could experience that too. So, through our "You Can Skate Community Program", we’re building a faith-filled skating community where kids and adults can learn for free, stay active, and grow in confidence while having fun. That’s the heart behind "You Can Skate, Inc." We’re here to create movement, opportunities, confidence in oneself, lift people up, help them find their path, and have fun while doing it. One Stride. One Soul. One Community at a time.

Who We Are

You Can Skate, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Katy, Texas. We are here to uplift the youth and families through community outreach, education, and skating. Rooted in values that reflect compassion, unity, and purpose.

We're officially open, and actively serving through our Outreach Program. Which provides support for student-athletes and families through school-sponsored camp costs, essential sports equipment, and athletic fees and anything students may need to fully participate without any worry.

In the near future we will open our permanent You Can Skate Community Center. A welcoming hub where movement, learning, and community come together. As a new organization, we know this vision will take time. We’re currently seeking land, or a building that will one day become our home-base and community headquarters. But we will not stand still! There are people in need and we will roll ahead and support those in need through our community outreach.

In the meantime we plan to partner with local skating rinks and host You Can Skate Nights throughout the city every few months. These pop-up events will bring families together for fun, inspiration, and a reminder that something special is on the way.

We’ll also co-host youth empowerment events with churches and community centers, focused on helping students roll forward in every area of life. Whether you’re on the field, in the band, or singing in the choir, you’re part of this movement. You don’t have to be an athlete to deserve support and opportunity.

We’re also excited to launch our You Can Skate Academy in mid-October, starting with Salesforce training and certification courses led by a certified instructor. These programs are designed to equip adults with job-ready tech skills that lead to real, lasting opportunities.
